Not sure, i'd say a pretty good case could be made for Thompson, and probably Mannus too. Since Christmas Thompson has been pretty much unplayable in my view, and 41 goals in 44 games is a hell of a record. Probably go for Gaulty but, not just for the fact he's been outstanding, but the way he's come back after a pretty disappointing year last time

ffs, was 1 BN vote from Aidy enough to get him in the final four?!

Only saying this because Gaulty recieved 95% of votes from our 'nomination' panel.

Anyhoo, Gaulty gets my vote. Not just because he does that defensive job better than anyone and has done it consistently bossing every midfield in the league and also European and RoI opposition.. However, he has also added an extra attacking dimension to his play.. Last season we all had a chuckle every time he ventured towards the opponents box expecting a dodgy pass or weak shot, this season, he's almost 'completed' his game.. Its possible he's done this after knowing he's had to do the work of two with the dissappointing form of Maccers, however hes done it so well.. 'The White Viera' (Don't let this go to your head when you read it Gaulty :P)

Second place for me is Peter Thompson. Much like Gaulty, he's had to do the job of two players with the lack of pace of his partner up front Spike. Some people wondered could he get close to his tally of 2005/06 again, well heres your answer, 5 games left to play and hes 8 short of that tally and well capable of knocking 50 in for the season. To cap of a great season he scored his first full international goal. Apart from his scoring ability he torments defenders never giving them a second on the ball, and manages to hold off the roughest defenders until our attack can catch up.

Third, Tino. Lets face it, our defence is our weakness and the only thing stopping us from getting another OBE (Over Before Easter). We have an insurance policy on our defence however and its called Alan Mannus, the best keeper we've had in many years, i'd say the best in my lifetime. We've never had a keeper like him who can collect a ball from crosses AND be such an excellent shot stopper. Yes, the guy need to polish up his distribution and boss his defence a bit more, BUT, he's won us a lot of games this season with his performances.

Notable mention..

Jamie Mulgrew - Some people call Gaulty the white viera, i call Mulgrew the 'Smurf Gaulty'. Since he got over his early march bench huff, he's been our best player in a run of around 5 games and hope he's still in a blue shirt next season. I'd say his biggest assets are his determination and his balance, he just manages to ride through tough tackles without going down and never takes a dive because of a bad challenge, always tries to keep going.. His defensive play is excellent, second only to Gaulty, so if he wants to keep the partnership going he is going to have to excel in his creative ability. He hasn't done enough to win any POTY award this season, however certainly has been our best player the past month.

was looking for the 'none of the above' option.

Winkie for me but went for Thompson, all the players mentioned have made a massive contribution but without Thompson's goals I don't think we would be where we are. Was a tough call though

Think that sums it up pretty well.

Cant believe Eccles managed to get O'kane even in this vote. No doubt he will end up with one vote in this too:cheesy:

I think O'kane doesn't receive some of the credit that he deserves... He is a very useful player as he can play midfield or defense. I wouldn't consider him our best player although, I would say he is under-rated...

However as for best player, Would have went with Mulgrew this season... although Gonna have to go for PistolPete. Been outstanding upfront and fully deserves the NI callups from Worthington.

Its too close to call I reckon we just give, in no particular order Gault & Thompson the award between them.

Michael, Michael, Gault. Michael, Michael, Gault. Na na na na na na na na na, Michael, Michael, Gault.

Dut, dut, dut, dut. Peter Thompson.

Both Gaulty and Pete have made massive contributions this year and deserve equal plaudits. No option to vote for both of them though so Gaulty shades it by a whisker.

Pity it wasn't one man, two votes.

Can't say I'm too surprised that Tino has started to pick up a few votes following his wee reminder yesterday

I voted for him as he was immense yesteday and has played well througout the season. We will miss him badly if he gets a move to the Championship. Would have given my second preference to Gault and then Thompson. Winkie Murphy is more deserving of a place on the shortlist than O'Kane to be honest. :O

In a midfield that been chopped and changed all season, one player has remained unchanged. Drove the team on and destroyed oppositions play and snuffed it out before it's had a chance to develop and also played his part in our attacking play.

Step forward player of the year imo.
Michael Gault.

Gault all the way:)

Just had to be, he is instrumental for linfield in the middle of the park!
He is a dominating midfielder and has a certain presence on the pitch, he is noted in my eyes as one of the most aggresive (but clean) and highly competitive players in the league! which is also why he got his 1st international cap!

Fantastic player
:D

Out of the four, I have to go with Gaulty, but serious consideration has to be given to Jamie Mulgrew this season as well, he has battled away in midfield or wherever else he has been asked to play, he has embodied what being a Linfield player is all about for me, plays with his heart on his sleeve and is prepared to give it all for the team, never gets upset at being substituted even when he has been playing very well, and has popped up with vital goals this year whenever it looked like we might not score at all....

Lets be fair about Mulgrew, hes played well for a month (the kind of performances that if he sustained it for a year he would be POTY) and was a huffy little git who couldn't turn in a performance before that?

Yeah I take your point and I guess it is easy to focus on recent performances and attribute them to a players overall contribution, although I do think Jamie has performed consistently well this season

no doubt gaulty has had a fantastic season, but i have gone for tino i think he has saved us time and time again this season. for me his saves to keep us a goal up in games he has had nothing to do in has just put him ahead of gaulty. great concentration throughout the 90mins.

Picked the only obvious choice, Gaulty.

Good to see Aidy in there though, Many would call him the most naturally talented player at the club:D
