Andy Conn, known as Linfield FC's 'Mr Politically Correct' and seen matchday circling the pitch, looking after mascots and any pre-match entertainment thats been organised.
However many see him as the man behind our lack of 'balls' in recent weeks to stand up to the likes of Stephen Nolan or the Sunday World, instead, sit quiet and maintain a more 'politically correct' image and not show ourselves as the age old 'We are Linfield, noone likes us, we don't Care' image most of us bluemen regard ourselves as.
The man who has taken the brunt of the flack has been Jim Kerr, who was noticeably invisible at the weekend when others of the Management Committee were on the pitch for the glory, and.. the PR.
It's clear that with the AGM coming up next week, these MC members are trying to win the hearts of the fans who they want to re-elect them and this is where the hypocrisy lies.
The removal of the Windsor Roar CD because it had 'My Aul Man' on it, caused the biggest uproar against the Linfield board in many years and this would have been a collective decision by those on the MC. Who forced their hand on this issue, Stephen Nolan.
So what do we see and hear just moments before the Gibson Cup was presented to the team? Linfield fans united in choir singing 'If you hate Stephen Nolan clap your hands'. The hypocrisy lies when Andy Conn walks by the bluemen who were singing this, clapping his own hands. Upon noticing this blatant attempt at electioneering, the bluemen became enraged towards Andy Conn, several at the fence including myself pointing out the hypocrisy. A special moment soon followed, several hundred fans behind us united in singing 'If you hate Andy Conn clap your hands'.
Trust me Mr Conn, it will take a lot more than clapping your hands to an anti Stephen Nolan song to win back the hearts and minds of the Linfield FC support and the same goes for the rest of those seeking re-election.
If you want to win the fans back you can for starters:
Put the Windsor Roar CD back on the shelves of the club shop
Issue a direct public apology to the fans whose hard work changed the songs on the terraces
Ban Sunday World journalists from Windsor Park
Ensure your fans are protected from the Gardai in future Setanta games
Ensure your fans arent adversely affected in future big games due actions of said people, including ticketing restrictions, 2 hour bus waits, anti-social measures in organising controversial games (strict bus numbers... invest in a barcode system for godsakes!).Those are my feelings alone and im sure this thread will weigh in with some more honest feelings against our MC which has been the worst for many years. Its been a very bright year for the Linfield team, however its been a very dark year for the Linfield MC and Chairman.
