Some fitting words from DJ.....

Pat McShane has been here at the club around 12 years. He has been the most wonderful servant of this club. Telling players they’re not going to get a contract is so difficult and I was on the receiving end of that disappointing news, initially at Manchester United and then, although I had a year still to run on my contract here as a player, I was told that really there was no place for me and that is difficult to take. Certainly, when you’ve someone like Pat McShane who has served this club so fantastically well and who really is a loyal true Blueman, it’s really sad and difficult when you’ve got to break the disappointing news. What he has given us has been absolutely magic service and countless memories. People will recall the legendary tussles between him and John Easton. I will never forget the camaraderie and the friendship and yet, the really competitive edge that existed between them. They both wanted to succeed. They both wanted to be in the side. They both wanted to be winners. It was very fitting that tonight Pat was given his league winners medal. He qualified having played 17 league games. I certainly wouldn’t like to think that Pat is finished with football just because he is no longer at Linfield. To you Pat, a massive thank you. I’ll never forget the day when we played Dungannon and the score was 0-0 with about 10 minutes to go and you came down the line and scored a screamer and you jumped on top of me in your celebrations. You nearly put me in hospital and that was a significant and very poignant time in my life. You always joked that that goal saved my job and for that, you will always have a very special place in all my thoughts. Pat may be gone but he will never ever be forgotten. The lovely thing that I would just like to share is that after he was told that his contract wasn’t being renewed, he said thank you very much for the privilege and the pleasure of having played for this great club and he will always be a Blueman and he’ll always come back here. So Pat we will all wish you all the very best.

I hate it when players leave like this, you don't get to show your appreciation one last time, and vice versa great servants Like Pat don't get to salute the fans. I somehow managed to slip through the net and didn't get to play Irish League football but I'd imagine players have a wee day dream about their final lap of honour and getting the oul standing ovation etc

I still do....:embarrassed:

Anyhoo, in the unlikely event he ever reads this, Cheers big ears and you're one of the players future generations will talk about, especially the god awful scissor kicks:)

We've been lucky over the last decade or so, to have had two outstanding left backs. John Easton & Pat McShane. Two of the finest left backs in the Irish League. Unforunatley it's time for Pat to move on, but he has been there and done it all & the medals to prove it.

Best of Luck Pat, another Linfield great.

A true Linfeld legend, and Linfield to the core. Took balls to play for and support Linfield so passionately when he arrived at the club and its the exact measure of this man.
What summed up Pat more than anything for me was him walking out for his Irish League medal at Seaview this season with a Hatchets and Hammers flag draped around his shoulders, given the press of this season, that will NEVER be forgotten.

Thanks for all those great memories you've given us over the years. I only know him to see but he appears to be a genuine, down to earth type of guy. His dad was always a welcome and regular attender at Windsor including training nights.

You'll be missed by all Bluemen. I wish you well for tomorrow and whatever else life has in store for you. A true Linfield legend!
